Status Thresholds Toolkit

Threshold numbers represent how much status needs to accumulate before the threat is overcome in that way.

These are examples, not limits. Players may attempt other approaches; the GM sets fitting thresholds. A single threat may have multiple thresholds, representing different avenues of resolution.

Use these as guidance when assigning or interpreting threat thresholds. The examples are not exhaustive — invent new ones as the fiction demands.

Physical

  • Hurt/Subdue-X: Physical harm, restraint, or incapacitation (tier 2–5 depending on toughness).
  • Disarm-X: Remove access to weapons, tools, or dangerous objects.
  • Trap/Restrain-X: Hold in place, tie up, or otherwise immobilize.

Social

  • Convince-X: Persuade, charm, or reason with.
  • Intimidate/Frighten-X: Instill fear to drive off or control.
  • Shame/Expose-X: Undermine authority or reputation.
  • Break Faith-X: Sever devotion to a god, cult, or cause.

Supernatural

  • Exorcise-X: Expel a possessing or haunting influence.
  • Purify-X: Remove corruption, curse, or divine taint.
  • Resist Influence-X: Withstand a compulsion or supernatural sway.
  • Seal/Bind-X: Lock away or contain an otherworldly force.

Environmental

  • Extinguish-X: Quell fire, acid, or spreading destruction.
  • Evacuate-X: Remove innocents or allies from harm’s path.
  • Escape-X: Flee or outlast a collapsing, hostile, or consuming space.
  • Contain-X: Keep a hazard from spreading beyond its bounds.
